Struslya, Struslya or Pletenka – delicious home-made pastries, a delicate bun, made in the form of an interesting braid. A braid is being prepared for Christmas from yeast dough.

Struslya (braid) – bread that is placed on the table next to the kutya, but is eaten on the first day of Christmas or after the end of the Christmas holidays (depending on the region).

According to tradition, dough for strusli (braid) is prepared in peace and quiet. Such dough does not like loud noise and drafts. Knead such a dough shake (braid) not long.

Struslya (braid) – ingredients

  • For the dough:
  • Water – 30 ml.
  • Yeast – 10 g.
  • Flour – 1 tbsp. flour

Struslya (braid) – cooking recipe

Let’s start making Strusli (Braids) from the preparation of opara. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and leave in a warm place for 15 minutes.

Mix eggs with honey, beat with a whisk until smooth. Add oil, mix well again with a whisk. Add your favorite winter spices: ginger, mint, basil, cinnamon, turmeric, cardamom, mix. Add the broth, mix.

With a spoon, gradually add flour, knead a soft dough. Cover it with a towel, leave it for 2 hours at room temperature.

Place the dough on a floured surface and divide into 6 equal parts. Roll out each particle very thinly. Lubricate the entire surface of the rolled dough with oil, twist the dough into a thin roll.

Transfer the finished braid to a baking dish, cover with a towel, and leave again for 2 hours at room temperature.

Before baking, grease the dough with water and sugar or protein.
