Herring in marinade

We offer to prepare homemade, tasty, tender herring in marinade. A great alternative to store-bought fish. So that the fish is tasty, choose it carefully when you buy it. Pay attention to the skin of the herring so that there are no blood stains, to the head of the fish and the eyes.

A well-chosen fish is the key to an incredibly tasty marinated herring. You can marinate mackerel or any other fish.

Marinated herring is prepared very quickly. It will taste good with potato dishes. The ingredients are very simple.

Ingredients for cooking herring in marinade:

  • fresh frozen herring – 3 pcs.
  • salt – 4,5 tbsp.
  • onion – 1 pcs.
  • sugar – 1,5 tbsp.
  • coriander seeds – 1 tsp.
  • bay leaf – 5 pcs.
  • vinegar – 1 tbsp.
  • oil – 60-70 g.
  • black pepper peas – 1 tsp.

Cooking herring in marinade:

Defrost and wash the herring, dry it. We clean from scales, entrails and black film. If the fish has a head, cut it off. Wash the fish well under running water.

Prepare the brine: add 1 tbsp. to 3 liter of water. salt (with top), 1 tbsp. sugar, 3 pcs. bay leaves, a few cloves of black pepper and 0,5 tsp. coriander seeds. Bring the brine to a boil, set aside and cool to room temperature.

Put the herring in a container. Pour the brine so that it completely covers the fish. Put the container with fish in a cool place for two days.

Remove the herring from the brine. Cut into small pieces.

Cut the onion into rings.

Prepare the marinade. In a container with water (1 l.) add 2 pcs. bay leaf, a few peas of black pepper, 0,5 tsp. coriander, 1,5 tbsp. salt, 0,5 tbsp. sugar and 1 tbsp. vinegar The marinade should boil and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.

Layers of onions and herring are placed in the jar. Pour the marinade and add 60-70 g of oil at the end. Bank of herring in marinade close tightly with a lid. Put in a cool place for one day.
