For Makoviya, we offer to bake a delicious poppy seed. Makivnik is not at all difficult to bake, and its taste is enriched by nuts and raisins.

Poppy seed – ingredients

  • For the dough:
  • flour – 500 g.
  • milk – 1 glass.
  • fresh yeast – 25 g (you can take 6 g dry).
  • butter – 100 g.
  • sugar – 100 g.
  • yolks – 3 pieces.
  • salt – 0,25 tsp.
  • For the filling:
  • poppy seeds – 250 g.
  • sugar – 100 g.
  • butter – 25 g.
  • honey – 1 tbsp.
  • protein – from one egg.
  • chopped nuts – 100 g.
  • raisins – 50 g.

Preparation of poppy seed:

Dissolve yeast in warm milk, add 1 tbsp. sugar and leave for 15 minutes until bubbles appear. Grind the yolks with sugar, add soft butter. Mix the butter mixture with yeast, add flour, salt. We knead the dough. In order for the dough to rise, it should be covered and put in a warm place.

While the dough is ready, prepare the filling for the poppy seed: Steam the poppy seeds several times. Drain the water and grind the poppy seeds, adding sugar. In a separate container, melt the butter and honey. Add the poppy seeds, heat them up a little. Add the nuts and raisins to the warm mass. Beat the egg white into a thick foam and carefully mix it into the poppy seeds.

Divide the dough for the poppy seed into four equal parts. We roll out and put the filling on each one. Twist into rolls. We spread it on a baking sheet and let it rise again.

Brush the rolls with egg and bake at 200 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
